I managed to rope two friends (Tim Ellwood and Sarah Geddes) from my running club Wellingborough and District AC to join me in running two full marathon distance races over a figure of 8 cross country course around Stratford upon Avon, the home of William Shakespeare. We were competing against 7 other corporate based teams running the course in opposite directions for the two days. The course director said that anything around 5 hours would be quick and that felt like a bit of a gauntlet to us. On the first day we were certainly covering the ground quickly enough to do it but our marathon reading let us down. We actually ran closer to 28 miles and finished in five and half hours.
The second day we were faultless in our navigation and despite having the previous day weighing on our legs finished in five hours.
Between us we raised £3000 and were amazed at the generosity of individuals clearly impressed by the challenge of running two marathons in two days.
